The Overwharton Parish register shows Samuel Bethel, son of William, born 19 February 1749. If this date is old style, which it should be, since the new style didn't take effect until 1752, the date would actually be the equivalent of 19 February 1750. Sampson Bethel was born 10 July 1750, or so I am told his Bible says. Considering the information available, I don't have much doubt that Sampson's family line is from William and Jean Hurst. However, there is a problem with these dates of birth.
Has anyone seen a microfilm of the parish register to see what date is given for Samuel-in other words, did the transcriber of the register restate the date in NS? Is there evidence that people were using NS dates before 1752?
