Are you sure Zillie was a slave? The reason I ask is that I believe there was a Bethea family of "free colored" in that area of SC before the Civil War. I could be wrong. But then, so could your family informants who may have just known she was born in 1858 and knew that emancipation came with the end of the Civil War in 1865.
Even if she was a slave, the 1870 federal census counted Blacks BY NAME for the first time in census history. She would only be 12 and probably still living with her parents, if alive. The same goes for her husband. The census can be accessed in various libraries and archives all over the country on microfilm, and I would think it is your best bet. Besides her parents, it would give her siblings, which might lead you to others working on the same line.
