According to the book Ancestors & Kin by Robert Walden Coggeshall, page 237, The parents of Cpt. Philip Pledger left Wales in June 1701 in the ship William & Mary and landed in Philadelphi on September 8, 1701. They removed to Virginia where Philip was born in 1710. Capt. Philip Pledger born 1710 died 1785 moved to SC in 1752 and settled on the Upper Pee Dee River where he ultimately owned 1161 acres. His fifth daughter, Elizabeth Pledger born Amelia County, VA married Jesse Council, William Terrel, William Field.
