Yes, you're quite right. I just checked the IGI. I assume these early documents you refer to are directly related to your "English John Bethea" and his descendants? You may want to investigate further on this claimed Barbara Bethea married in Scotland in 1792. Funny the name Bathie being spelt like mine, but with a totally different pronunciation.
