Ed, I only know what Sellers' "History of marion County SC" says about David Asbury Smith's parents. In fact the source I have is a cross reference called "The Ancestral Key to the Pee Dee" and it lists David as Daniel (I know this to be an error.) Alice Bethea was my Grgr Grandfather's sister; therefore my grgr Aunt. I have a photo of her and know that she and David lived in Birmingham, AL. where he was a newspaper editor. Although I know of the family, I still believe there would be a great deal of info on him since he was so prominent. i.e. editorials, obits. etc. I know Alice Bethea Smith died in the late 20's, but know little else of her family other than her son's named Maxey and David Asbury Jr.

Sellers mentions David Asbury Sr. or his family on pps.390, 403, 497,407,, 585.

He lists his parents as Rev. John L. Smith and Rachel Wannamaker (Smith son of William Smith and Kesiah Lane)

I have only the listings, no proof. in addition I have Dr. John Maxcy smith and his children as well as other siblings of David Asbury. Let's compare notes. Please respond in the forum, but also via email.
