The reference from the slave narratives describes the Sweat Swamp plantation. It suggests there were quite a number present. Any of the former slaves might have taken the Bethea name. There was another location on Buck Swamp owned by Elisha C Bethea. There were approximately 125 slaves there. On old maps it would be near Reedy Creek. In 1860 there was no Latta and no Dillon SC, both were probably wood stations ( usually 15-20 miles apart) for the new railroad built after the war. Part of the old Elisha plantation was sold to the railroad. The Reedy Creek post office then ceased to be.
