As far as we can determine, there is but one Bethea who came from England, that is John Bethea (English John). His son John Bethea (Virginia John) settled in Nansemond Co. VA.
He had one son named John Bethea (Buck Swamp) who settled on the Buck Swamp in SC; William (Sweat Swamp) Bethea who settled nearby on the Sweat Swamp in SC and a son named Tristram Bethea who settled on Cape Fear NC.
At various times the name was spelled Bathey, Bethey, and Bethay. There has been much written about this family as being of French Hugenot stock and possibly a Anglicized spelling of Berthier, but there is no proof.
If my memory serves me there is a Bathey Abby in France. Depending on how much info you have and how far back you can go, those of us on this site may be able to connect you. I would suggest that you contact all on the site.

if I can help let me know.
