My grandfather was Francisco Betancourt Soberat and was from the Arecibo, Barceloneta, Santana area. His birth was registered in 1899. His father was Guillermo Betancourt and was a carpenter. Either Guillermo and his brothers and their father came together from the Canary Islands, or it was Guillermo's father along with the father's brothers who came over. According to family stories I heard, the mother came later.

I saw a posting by Juan Sanchez Betancourt. I wonder if he can fill in some gaps.
