Marjorie Bessey Mulkey, 99, passed away Dec. 4, 2006. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 7, 2006 at the Boise Samaritan Village, 3115 Sycamore, Boise. Arrangements are under the direction of Cloverdale Funeral Home. Marjorie was born in Springston, Idaho to Henry and Cora Bessey, May 4, 1907. Her mother died that year and Marjorie was sent to live with relatives in Coeur dŽAlene. Her father remarried to Mary Ferraby in 1912 and Marjorie moved with them to Okanogan, Wash. where her father started an apple orchard. Her father died in 1918 from an appendix attack and her stepmother raised Marjorie and a cousin, Helen, as her own. Marjorie graduated from Okanogan High School in 1924, and then Reed College in Portland, Ore. in 1929. She also took some classes at a business school. She taught Algebra in the high school at Prosser, Wash. where she met Wendell Mulkey. They were married in 1934 in Vale, Ore. He had a job working for the Bureau of Reclamation on the Hoover Dam project in Nevada, where they lived for the first year of their marriage. They moved to the next Bureau job at Coulee Dam in Washington, where they spent several years in the area at different jobs. Their children, Don, Bruce, and Susan were all born in the area. After spending another five years at the Palisades Dam project in Idaho, Wendell was asked to supervise some work on the Snowy Mountain project in New South Wales, Australia. The family lived there for two years, returning to Boise in 1960. Wendell retired in 1962, after 35 years with the bureau. They enjoyed retirement, traveling, gardening, and taking painting lessons. They kept in contact with many friends they made over the years in the many places they lived. The family would like to thank the staff at the Boise Samaritan Village for their care of Marjorie. Marjorie is survived by her three children, Don (Sande) of Oak Harbor, Wash.; Bruce (Joan) of Nampa; and Susan of Boise; eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, as well as a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Francis Jerome McMahon of Seattle, and their daughter, Janice. In lieu of flowers please send a memorial contribution, in Marjorie's name, to your favorite charity.
