If there is a family tradition of your Besseys being "Loyalists" that means that they came to Canada right after the American Revolution because they were "Loyal" to the
Crown and did not want to live under republican system of government. Later on,
in the 1800's the grandchildren of these
"Loyalists" returned to the United States.
I am a direct descendant of JACOB BESSEY
who was a Loyalist. He was born in New York
and his father was ROBERT BESSEY SR. b.1723
but we know not where.
There is another Canadian Bessey family
who came to Saskatchewan from Nebraska in
1901. We effectionately refer to those Besseys as "Late Loyalists".
