I'm looking for information on the Bessent family. The information below is the extent of my Bessent data! I hope someone can help!
I apparently descend from William Bessent, born in NC in 1790. Having moved some time after their children were born, William and his wife, Margaret, can be found in the 1850 Census of Dyer Co, TN.
William and Margaret had three children: S A Bessent (female), born in 1829; A Bessent (male), born in 1831 in NC; and P R Bessent (male), born in 1833 in NC.
In the 1850 Census for Dyer Co, TN, there is a listing for an "A Bessent," age 19 years, and a "P Bessent" who is 17. Either of these men could be the father of Temperance Bessent, detailed below.
The name of "A Bessent" could possibly be Abram or Abraham, based on family names. There is an A. N. Bessent listed in the 4th district, Dyer Co, 1860.
With the unidentifiable father and mother, Temperance "Tempe" Bessent, born before 1854. She married John A Mills, born in 1848. They would be my great-great-grandparents.
Together, they had at least one child, Mary Rebecca "Beck" Mills, who was born in Lenox, TN, on 16 Mar 1872. Beck married George Washington A Tubbs and resided in west TN the remainder of her life.
I hope there is a tidbit here that someone can identify as a part of their own history and help me out!
