See findagrave.com posting for John Besant. A former slave from Georgia, he died 19 Oct 1909, San Antonio, Bexar Co, TX, and is buried in the San Antonio Cemetery. Clipping of the obituary was found in the King Family File, Archives of the Patrick Heath Public Library, Boerne, TX. Clipping does not state which San Antonio newspaper it was from, nor what date, but appears to be from a retrospective article.

"October 20, 1909

The funeral was held this afternoon from the King residence and interment made in the family lot in City Cemetery No.1, Rev. Arthur Jones, officiating." Death certificate has age as "about 90", birthplace Georgia, Burial in City Cemetery No. 1, undertaker Sloan and Hagy.
