He married (1) REBECCA FAIR Abt. 1855 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of WILLIAM FAIR and MARGARET GENSEL. She was born Abt. 1815 in Charleston, South Carolina, and died 1866 in Charleston, South Carolina. He married (2) LUCINDA C. E. WRIGHT April 22, 1866 in Greene County, Georgia, daughter of JOHN WRIGHT and CECILIA ROWLAND.

No direct link to Peter Bessent. However he is the only other Bessent in the part of Georgia and his first wife is the sister of Peter's first wife. Marriage records of Green Co., Ga - Abraham W. Bessent married Lucinda E. Wright on April 22, 1866. The marriage was performed by Albert W. Rowland, M. of the Gospel. See also Southern Christian advocate, issue 23, July 1857.
