Capt. Co. M. 10th S. C. Regiment, CSA. After the war moved to Punta Gorda, Florida Became A Methodist Minister 1860 Census Horry Co., S. C. All Saints Parish, Pg. 127, fam #974 from Mrs. Ione Woodall, 1932 Chenango Ave., Clearwater, Florida in 1985: "I have been "collecting" descendants of William Gore and Mary Simmons and their daughter, Mary, marrried John Bessent Oct. 29, 1805, but a John Bessent married Anna Nash Feb. 27, 1812, so she must have been the Mother of William A. Bessent. I do not think that this was some other John Bessent because William Gore was the witness for both marriages. I have found no evidence that "my" John P. Bessent was a minister, nor that he ever lived at Punta Gorda, Florida. In the earlier censuses he was a farmer, then in 1900 a school teacher. If he really was a minister, that may be the reason that they left Marion Co., between 1880 and 1885. The oldest daughter, Maud Ann, had an illegitimate child in 1880 and was not living with her family. She later married and her husband died a few years after they married".
