Spelling of the name

There are Brashear and Brashears forums also. The name Brashear has about 40 variants in spelling in Leon Brashear and Troy Back's book "The Brashear Story." One thing that makes this family hard to trace in the constant name changes in records involving the same person. The ancestor that I am trying to find out about is Berry Brashear b1790 Pendleton District, SC. He is Boshear, Beshires, Breshears, Beshears, and Brashears in various records. My great grandparents have different spelling for their names on the same tombstone: DeKalb Beshears and Arminda Breashears. My grandmother spelled her name Brashears. Anyone who is looking for a member of this family should also check and/or post the Brashear and Brashears forum.

Joe George
