Melanie, My maiden name was Berwick but the name keeps changing. We pronounced the 'w' but most ignore it. Our first arrival came out as George Berwick and thereafter changed the children, half to Berwick and half to Barwick which became their spelling. My Grandfather said 'Berwick' was correct spelling and adopted this spelling. I can understand your problem. We arrived in Australia from Norfolk c. 1824 but cannot find any trace of George's father Richard in that County. Does there appear to be any connection to Norfolk? My father always thought the family came from Scotland.
