This is a treasure trove! I copied everything you wrote into a document, Janet, and tomorrow when I have my printer hooked up, I'll compare notes. My husband's grandmother was Philomena Berube. The line I was given by a French Canadian cousin was Robert, Damien, Pierre, Jean-1, Jean-2, Basile, then Philomena. I wasn't seeing Jean in your documents, but will take a closer look tomorrow -- when I have it on paper in front of me. I loved your insight into the spelling of names, and the books you used for resources are excellent to know about. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
