Bertrand & Miller connection

My Grandfather

Wilfrid Bertrand b. Jan. 13, 1890 Bapt. April 13, 1890 and 1st communion June 12, 1904 in Hull, Quebec. It is a standard certificate but does not indicate the Church in Hull, Quebec. Died Jan. 15, 1961 in Ottawa and buried in Notre-Dame de Lourdes Cemetery in Vanier (east Ottawa), Ontario.

Married Hilda Miller b. Jan. 28, 1903 in abt 1917-1918.

We know he had a sister Alice Deavey(sp?)nee Bertrand and brothers Joseph and we think Eugene. One brother moved to the states and became a lawyer (we don't know where).

My grandfather's life was rather sad since he didn't really get to know his own children. He deserted his wife Hilda & children - David (known as Sonny)(deceased), Louie (deceased), Joyce, Buddy (deceased), Wilfrid, Joseph (my father)(deceased May 24, 2006), Betty (deceased) and Gerald when they were young. The boys were sent to work farms because my grandmother couldn't afford to raise them. He virtually became a recluse after that.

My mother found out about 10 years ago that Wilfrid Bertrand was in enlisted in the Canadian Services in WWI and became a deserter. At this time she was also told he was married out west and never divorced before marrying my grandmother (in essence a bigamist). When my mother got this information, Veterans Affairs only gave this information orally and not on paper. I am going to see if I can purchase this record.

So I am looking for Wilfrid's father & mother's name so I can continue my search

Thank you in advance for any assistance

Debora Bertrand - Toronto, Ontario.
