Dear Judy...Hi how are you? My name is Catherine Bertrand Zeigler. I grew up in Clayton,New York. A small tourist town in the Thousand Islands in northern New York State on the Canadian border. My father's family had lived there for years. My father's name was Robert Carl Bertrand and his Dad's name was Harold Napolean Bertrand and his Dad's name was Napolean Bonaparte Bertrand and I think he may have had a brother named Oliver or perhaps an uncle named Oliver. I have an old book called " A history of St. Mary's Parish". That was the name of the Catholic parish that we all belonged to in Clayton. It was the only Catholic church in town. There is an Oliver Bertrand mentioned in the book. I think the book was published in the late 1800's. I suppose that my great-grandfather's father could have been named Oliver. The family supposedly came to New York from Quebec and before that from the Alsace-Lorraine region in Eastern France, an area that was sometimes German territory and sometimes French. My Dad and his Dad and his dad before that all were inn-keepers. At one time the family had two Hotels in the town of Clayton. My great-grandfather, Napolean, who was called Poly, built one of the Hotels. He was known to have a wonderful sense of humor and he liked to fish on the River as did my Dad. I currently live in Buffalo,New York. I am married and have 4 grown children. Write back if you can, Cathy
