The only information I have about the Bertrands in Illinois is from Joseph's obituary that said they were there for "some time" after they immigrated from Seraing, Belgium in 1870. They were in Chariton, Iowa a few years later. I bet they went to Illinois first to be with your ancestor or other family. E-mail me directly if you want to compare notes.
