Andrea- Thank you for replying so soon.I would like to tie all the ends together.I would really like to be able to tell my husband's Italian relatives who their complete family are. There are so many Berti's that came to the U.S. through Ellis Island and also through the Ship's Transcriber's Guild passenger lists. You have years, dates, ports of departure, ports of arrival. There are several volumes you can look through.I even found the Mayflower list. The name of Chilton got my attention. My grandmother on my dad's side was a Shelton and I found that the name of Chilton was eventually spelt as Shelton. I've found that what makes genealogy so hard is the spelling. When they came to this country, they could not read or write or understand English, and the US people couldn't understand them. Hence, the name was written the way the US understood them whether it was right or wrong.
So, I would imagine Berti has been spelled as birte, birti, etc.The Biondi's and Amideis were mostly from Fiumalbo while his grandfather, Domenico Passoni was just
aways down the road in Riolunata in the provence of Emilia Bolgna/Modena. A northern Mountainous area for both of them. One of the relatives who visited there many years ago, said the villages were beautiful, but the people were very poor.We have one picture of Magdalena Berti Biondi. It was taken with her standing beside and empty chair with Battista Biondi's handkerchief laying in the chair.I'm told this means the passing of their spouse. Many different customs have come to my attention throughout my
teaching genealogy to the Senior citizens in the retirement
park where we go for the winter.I will be glad when you get your hard drive repaired. It happened to us too.Its a good thing our son backed up my document files. He was able to re-enter all of my genealogy files.Good luck!!!Ann
