There is an old Church in Hackensack, NJ, called the Church on the Green. There is an old cemetery located in the back. This Church is where the Rev. Bertholf (1656-1725) is buried. Most, if not all, the Bertholfs that you come into contact with are descendents of the Rev. Bertholf.

You're question is about John Jay Bertholf and his family tree. John Jay is a descendent of the Rev. Bertholf's third son, Jacobus Bertholf. Many of his descendents can be found in the New York/New Jersey area, as far as my research has shown. The Rev. first and second sons have many descendents in the western areas of the US. Many Bertholfs moved to the "west" about the time that the Erie Canal was built. They first went to Ohio and then their children and grandchildren moved on to Iowa, Oklahoma, and so on. Today, you can find descendents all over the US and that is part of the fun of this name study and the genealogy.
