There is an excellent genealogy in print that deals with the descendents of Andrew Hopper Bertholf (Forest's grandfather). It is entitled "Coming Home to the Shining Mountain" and is authored by Mickey Charlesworth. Forest's mother was Melissa Caruthers and was born in Indianapolis. I have never heard of a Native American connection with Melissa but anything is possible. She died in Collbran CO in 1906. I am sure that you have received this info from Mary Andrews with whom I have shared much on this line in the past. I have a copy of the above book but it is buried in my genealogy stuff somewhere. I will see if I can find it for additional info.
