Buck's parakeet died, St. Charles, Ill., 1953
St. Charles (Illinois) Chronicle, Sept. 16, 1953:
Headline: Around the Town
Buck Berry’s parakeet, “Peppie,” passed away a week ago last Wednesday at the age of three from heat prostration. The bird could say 27 words, including “Hello, pretty baby,” Fine day” and “How are you” and will be very much missed. He was really Mrs. Berry’s pet according to Mr. Berry and as proof of this he gives the fact that he tried to teach him to say “Buck” for two years and failed.
