William Berry - War Veteran
I am looking for information on William Berry, born in Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland around 1835, the son of William Berry, a dyer, and his wife Margaret Garden. On 5 July 1860 William married Henrietta Younger at Edinburgh; and they were to have three daughters and three sons.He later fought in the American Civil War and afterwards arrived in Auckland, New Zealand in 1864. From 1868 Berry was editor of the Thames Advertiser. William Berry died suddenly at his residence, Te Muritai, at Lake Takapuna (Lake Pupuke) on 2 October 1903. He was buried at O'Neills Point cemetery. I need any information on him, family, any descendants, especially the state he lived in in America and any information on what military unit he served with.He was editor of the New Zealand Herald, July 1903 was elected President of New Zealand Institute of Journalists, Residence was in Takapuna, New Zealand, Survived by wife Henrietta, who was an invalid, three daughters, Mesdames Gould and Sharland.
