while looking for the elusive Elizabeth Barringer/Berringer/Berenger, I came across this entry in the 1860 census for Madison, Luzerne, PA

the census taker's handwriting is somewhat difficult to puzzle out, but is anyone looking for this family ?

(this is my attempt at transcription, not Ancestry's .. )

Chas (Charles?) Berecker (Berenger?) 39 PA
Phebe 35 PA
Geo H. (George?) 14 PA
Elsa M. 1 PA
Mary E. Berringer 9 PA

(yes the last entry almost looks like "Inez" however
the writing is identical on another line where the
woman is known to be MARY)

right next door is the family I'm working on:

Jenas (should be Jonas) Knickerbocker
(whose wife Elizabeth is said to be a Barringer)

Candy
