I'm researching the BERNINGER family heritage of Columbia Co., PA. My gg-grandmother was Caroline BERNINGER/BARNINGER of Luzerne Co., PA, b. 1825; md. Samuel Lewis WERTS 1843; had 7 children: d. 1885 Franklin Co., OH. I believe her parents were Jacob C. and Catherine BARNINGER/BERNINGER, found in the censuses of Sugarloaf, Luzerne Co., PA from 1820-1850. From a bio found in the History of Columbia Co., I learned that the BERNINGERS in the Luzerne/Columbia area of PA were descendants of Philip BERNINGER, b. Berks Co. PA, s/o immigrant Nicholas BERNINGER. Any additional information about this family is welcome.
