I can tell you that there were at least 3 Nicholas Berringer/Berningers--one in Berks Co., one in Montgomery Co. and one in Bucks Co. I've found this record, which also looks like it could be about a BARINGER family, if the immigration records picked up the name VARINGER/FARINGER and made it BARINGER. From Annette Burgert's book "18th Century Emigrants from the Northern Alsace to America": (my notes) Heinrich VARINGER (FARINGER), herdsman, and w/Barbara had children: *Martin, b. c 1710 md A. Margaretha ISEMANN, had 2 daughter, 2 sons, Martin & J.Nicholas (1761 Germantown, Philadelphia Co.). *A son unnamed, b. 1714. *Maria Barbara, b. 1715 *Hans Theobald, b. 1718, md. A. Barbara FISCHER, had children: M. Catharina, b. 1744. Hans Diebold, b. 1746. M. Magdalena, b. 1748. *Nicholas, bp. 1720 Nicholas and Martin Emigrated on the ship Halifax, 1752 and J. Theobold emigrated on the ship Phoenix 1750. European records were found in Ottweiler, Drulinger and Wolfskirchen, Sarre-Union in the Northern Alsace. American records were found in St. Michaels Lutheran churchbook, Germantown, Philadelphia co. (H. Martin's last 2 children) Some of the people who served as sponsors at baptisms in Europe were neighbors of the family that I'm researching in connection with the BERNINGER name: WERTS. My connection-- Caroline BERNINGER, d/o Jacob & Catherine BERNINGER, b. 1825 Berks Co., PA, md. Samuel Lewis WERTS, (b. 1824 PA)in Sugarloaf, Luzerne Co., PA 1843. Hope this helps you.
