Louise---I too am related to Major John Berrien in that his grandfather was my many greats grandfather.
I have retired to Savannah GA and have learned a great deal of information about John and John McPherson Berrien; John McPherson Berrien was one of 4 founders of the Ga Historical Society and it is full of info on him and Major John. Incidently, the John Berrien House is still standing, is currently a derelict, and is about to be fully renovated. It is the #1 renovation project of the Savannah Historical Society. I have pictures, newspaper articles etc.
If you don't have it, you should get the book " Berrien Family Genealogy" by E. Renee Heiss. I purchased it from a rare book dealer off the internet. You can contact me directly at arrowsmith@sysconn.com
