I'm not sure if this is the family that you are looking for but they were married in Strickland, ON so that points to the high possibility that it is the right couple.
Gilbert Bernier (s/o Roméo Bernier & Marie-Anne Pelletier) married Georgette Pelchat (d/o Hubert Pelchat & Bernadette Labonté) on 18 September 1965 in Strickland, ON.
I couldn't find any children for this couple though, but that's not uncommon that only the couple is shown.
My suggestion is that you send an email to L'Association des Bernier d'Amérique, Inc. I'm sure that you will make contact with someone from that branch of the family who knows your godmother.
Send it to Ginette Bernier (email: gmbernier@sympatico.ca) and/or F. Roberge (email: froberge@ivic.qc.ca). I think that you may need to translate your email first because I'm not sure if either of them read/write/speak English.
