This is all the info I have:
Joseph Charles Bernier born 1844 in Canada
Parents names may have been Charles Bernier
and Minnie Lucia (These were the names given
for his parents on the records at the funeral
home in East Chicago, Indiana) Nothing else
has been found. He was married to a Philomene Benoit date unknown. They had 5 children: Joseph Albert Barnier b.2/13/1870
Louis Napoleon Barnier b.2/20/1872
Charles Stephen Bernier b.12/6/1875
Minnie (Mary) Bernier b.8/15/1878
Lucia Lena Bernier b.7/10/1880
They were all born in Crown Point, New York.
Records of births and baptisms can be found
in St. Patrick's Church in Port Henry,N.Y.
Philomene died in 1881 at the age of 34 of
an abdominal tumor. She was buried at MillBrook in Port Henry N.Y.
He had another child named Maria Agnes Bernier born 1/23/1883.
This record was found in Our Lady of Lourdes
in Schroon Lake, N.Y.
Her mother was listed as Agnete Bellerose
but we have not found any marriage records.
Lucia Lena also known as Helen was raised
by friends. She married a Frank Keisacker
and settled in Florida where she died 2/21/1951. Napoleon stayed in N.Y. when
he wasn't traveling the country on the rails.
He was a handy man and a boxer. He was found
died 1/6/1947 and burned in a pupers grave
somewhere in N.Y.. Joseph Sr., Joseph Jr.,
Charles and Minnie moved west to Indiana and
Ill. Minnie died in 1946. Charles died
of a ruptured appendix 1/30/1925 leaving
his wife Elizabeth Bourque Bernier to raise
his 5 children alone. My great grandfather
Joseph Jr. died 1/14/1912 of ruptured stitches. He was a police officer that returned to his job to soon after a major
surgery. Joe left his wife Edwina Genevieve
(Jenny)Bourque Barnier to raise their 9 children alone. Lizzy and Jennie were sisters. Joseph Sr. was a fisherman that
worked part time for the railroad. He died
1/12/1910 in a railroad accident. Later on
someone in the family said Joseph Sr. had
a sibling that remained in Canada and his
name was Maximillian Bernier, but I have
no proof of that info. Anything sound familiar?
