Sophia Bernhard Hills was born 1843in Wurtemburg which bordered Baden. She was related (Sister?)to Henry Bernhard In Shumway, Effingham, IL. She was married on October 14th,1863 to John C. Hills who fought in the Civil War for the Pa Bucktails Co. F. My research shows John C. Hills recouperating in Washington Square Hospital from wounds received in the battle of Fredricksburg 12/13/1862. Until July 7th 1863. He then (re-)joined the 2nd Battalion of the Veterans Reserve Corps. They had a son Jacob Phillip Hills who was born Dec. 19th,1863 in PA. Jacob is listed as a boarder in the 1880 Shumway census at the age of 16. I am looking for more information (than the 1880 census)on the Bernhard line as well as Jacob P. Hills who in the 1900 census is in Scranton, PA. Sophia died in 1884 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetary, in Hamilton Square,Mercer, NJ
