I have recently come into the possession of my late grandfather's letters, including one to my great grandmother from a Mrs. Berner in New Jersey who befriended my grandfather as a young soldier about to be shipped to France. If anyone is interested, I will review the letter and get more complete information (I'm at work -- the letter is at home). It was very kind of Mrs. Berner to write and offer reassurance to my family.
