Diane,

Tre bizarre! I just found a Berner from the 16th century and thought, "Well, he's probably not related to us because our name was originally Boerner", and the story goes the name was changed upon arrival in America.

My grand-father, Edwin Berner, was born in Michigan in 1904 or thereabouts. I think his father's name was Emil and if I remember correctly he actually emigrated to America from Germany during the late 19th century.

I would love to see if we've found a link!
