I am looking for information on my ggrandfather, Samuel Esmond Berner (1879-1962) and his father, Lorenzo Berner. Sam Berner was born in E. Cobleskill, NY. I am trying to trace this line farther back. Lorenzo Berner m. Amanda Smith. This case is complicated in that at some point along the way, there was a name change to Berner by one of two brothers. The brothers had a disagreement and one changed his surname to Berner from ? Barner, Barney, some sound-like.

Any leads welcome!
