Peter

You are the son of Len Berner? If, so you are my second cousin.

I've done quite a bit of research my German relatives (with mum). I am not sure how much you know, I did not see the previous message (I have only just used this service for the first time). I would be happy to share any research you may have.

As far back as our Berner line goes, we are in the village of Rotenberg which is about 7 km SW of Stuttgart.
The earliest Berner I have is Johann Berner who's son Christian was born on 16 Feb 1747.

The origin of the name Berner is apparently that Swiss (probably Mercenaries) were bought the Germany in the 15th century by the Duke of Wurttemberg. One of 2 castles used by the Duke in that era is on the edge of Rotenberg. I visited the town in 1996 and met a few of our 2nd cousins.

I'm not sure exactly how this service is supposed to work, but I can be found in the Melboune phone book in Glen Waverley.

Ross Berner
