Looking for ship wreck info about 1841-1846 coming to New Orleans. Supposedly John Louis Bernard was born on board 4 days before arrival in New Orleans port. Parents supposedly were Jean Guillaume (or John Wm.) and Bridget (Bridgette) Whitehead Bernard from somewhere in France. Because of the wreck, took six months to make the trip. Two daughters also on board, Mary E. and Alphonsine. (Mary later married Kinion Boutwell, and Alphonsine married G. W. Bennett.)
Death of mother when John Louis was 2 1/2 years which would be range of 1844-49). (No exact year of birth; headstone has 1844). At 8 years, 1850-54, the step-mother (name unknown) poisoned Jean G. and herself leaving the 3 children orphans, perhaps in the greater New Orleans area including St. Tammany Parish. John Louis (age 15-17) was appointed a tutorship by the St. Tammany Court in 1861. In 1870 he married Mary Fatima Mallard of Lawrence Co. MS. He was murdered in 1915 by his "buddy" Claude Holmes.
Any help appreciated.
