I just recently did a survey of the documents at the Manassas Regional Library looking for Thomas Bernard. A Thomas Bernard arrived in Virginia sometime between 1622 and 1630 when he married Mary Beheathland. They had a daughter named Beheathland Bernard who was born 1631-1635. She married Francis Dade and the name Beheathland was passed down through quite a few generations.

A Mary Bernard was supposed to be the daughter of Richard Bernard. She was indeed his daughter. However, her father was the Puritan minister Rev. Richard Bernard of Batcombe, Somerset. He was born about 1567 and died in 1641. Mary married Rogeer Williams, the man who founded Rhode Island.

Francis Bernard and Alice Haselwood had twelve children who survived infancy and not one of them was Mary.

Francis Bernard and Alice Haselwood had a son named Thomas but Thomas did not have a son named Thomas. In fact, I cannot find out who the Thomas Bernard was who came to Virginia in the 1620's. He may be related but he is not a descendant of Francis as far as I can tell.

I have two other Mary Bernards in my database. One is the sister of Francis Bernard and was born early in the 16th century. The other is the child of Richard Bernard who arrived in Virginia in 1643. However, she did not make the trip with him. She died as an infant.
