Pauline,
You might try checking for your BERNARDs under the BROUILLET(TE) line. Michel BROUILLET(TE)dit LAVIOLETTE came to Canada in the late 1660's and married Marie DUBOIS, daughter of Guillaume DUBOIS and Isabella LASOEUR. They had 4 boys: Bernard, Jean, Gilles, Pierre and 3 girls: Jeanne, arie and Marie Francoise. Bernard BROUILLET(TE) dit LAVIOLETTE married Marie CHARTIER dite ROBERT, and they had 15 children. Their sons, Jean Baptiste and Robert, added the name BERNARD to their names, thus becoming Jean Baptiste BROUILLET dit BERNARD and Robert BROUILLET dit BERNARD. Thier children, as a rule, kept the BERNARD.
Since the BROUILLET(TE)family, as a rule, stayed in or near Quebec, the BROUILLET(TE)name stayed in or near Quebec and the dit BERNARDs moved to the U.S.
