Hi,
The Walter you mention, born unknown, would he be Walter Henry Bernard? I'm having trouble finding him. All I know is what I gleaned from a census where he states that he was born in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, but then on other census documents his birth place is stated as unknown. He was born around 1850. Could he be the one you mention, please?
I'm stuck!
