Hello, Colonel -
See my post earlier on this same thread. I am researching the Jones of Northampton and Edgecombe who trace back to Surry Co. I believe Dolling Jones was probably kin to these Jones and named for Capt Samuel Dalling. I'd like to compare records and ideas with you and see if we can prove a little more.
There is a webpage about Dolling Jones who moved from Halifax Co to SC. http://www.ptocci.com/files/Bessie_Cone_Norton_Ancestors_05192012.pdf
It claims that Dolling's wife was Susannah and his children included Mary Ridley Jones who married Green Rives and Darling A Jones. There is a record on this page that proves that Darling Jones was son of Dolling Jones.
Fairfield Co. Museum: Dolling Jones deceased, dated 7 Sept 1791; admimis. "Darling Jones, son of Dolling Jones"
However I see nothing in the way of records to prove the wife Susannah and a daughter Mary Ridley Jones. If Susannah can be proven, I think she must have been a later wife. His wife in 1764 appears to have been Lucy.

Francis Jones' wife was Mary Ridley, dau of Nathaniel Ridley and Elizabeth Day.
Francis Jones' daughter Ridley Jones married Henry Restore Jones, son of Henry Jones II and Sarah-- and grandson of Henry Jones Sr d 1739 and wife Catherine Judkins.
Children of Henry Restore Jones and wife Ridley:
1. Elizabeth Day Jones
2. Jemimah Jones
3. Francis Jones,
4. Willis Jones,
5. Mary R. Jones,
6. Margaret Jones,
7. Albrittain Jones,
IF a daughter named Mary Ridley Jones can be proven, I think Dolling's wife Lucy from the 1764 deed must have been Lucy Jones, dau of Francis Jones and Mary Ridley. I have not been able to find anything about this Lucy Jones as the wife of anyone else.

Phillip Jones, James Jones, and Henry Jones II of this record were all sons of Henry Jones Sr d 1739.
The marriage of Henry Restore Jones and Ridley Jones must have occurred after 1754. This deed is by the widow of Henry Jones II.

I have not yet been able to prove the father of Dolling Jones, but I feel sure he relates to the Jones family from Surry Co and was probably named for Capt Samuel Dalling. In researching the records of Capt Samuel Dalling, I have found that the name Dalling was sometimes spelled Dolling and even Darling. His parents were Capt Thomas Dalling and Elizabeth Pittam (some say Pitman) who married in Boston and lived in Portsmouth, NH. I have found no evidence that Capt Thomas Dalling ever spent any time in NC, so I don't think a Jones son married a Dalling daughter. I think it's more likely that one of the Jones respected Capt Samuel Dalling enough to name a son for him. But which Jones was it?
It's also interesting that Mary Ridley Jones married Green Rives. The Rives family were near neighbors to the Jones in Surry Co and in Northampton Co. There was at least one Jones/Rives marriage. Green Rives traces back to this same Rives line.
We're talking two totally different lines of Jones here that just happened to come together in Edgecombe and marry into each other. Henry Jones Sr was son of William Jones d 1714 Surry Co. William first owned land on the S side of the Appomattox, then later moved south to land on both sides of the Nottoway River near Jones Hole Swamp. Francis Jones and wife Mary Ridley came out of Isle of Wight. I have found nothing that indicates any prior kinship between these two lines of Jones.
