Thomas James, Bermuda early 1800's

Family story has it a Thomas James fathered my great great grandfather
William Henry James in Bermuda about 1822. Thomas may have been white but William Henry was definitely of creole extraction. His mother was perhaps
Deborah Smith.
William Henry James ended up in Melbourne, Australia in time to marry in 1860.

Would anyone at this forum be able to help me with more information?

Just one other piece of information: a Thomas James senior, "recently of Bermuda", owning slaves on Turks Islands, died on Bahama Island in July, 1834. Maybe this is a further clue.

Would love to think someone thought this was easily answered!
