Greetings from Bermuda.
In the 19th Century Church Registers of Bermuda - by Hallett.
(info on Baptisms, marriages and burials only - births and deaths were not recorded until 1966 approx).
Forward, Henry John - (father)John - (mother)Emma - baptized: 1853, June 5th - Parish of St.George's, Bermuda. Comment: father a Sgt. 56th Regiment.
Page 31 in the St. George's Parish baptisms.
That is the only FORWARD entry in the entire book.
I also checked in the book 'Forty Years of Convict Labour in Bermuda' nothing found.
This entry tells you that the father was with the 56th Regiment and he was a Sergent. So I would suggest that you go to the old Regiment archives. It is possible that the parents were already married prior to coming to the island as there is no marriage found. Plus, they were not listed in the area where the mothers name is different from the fathers which shows 'illigetimate children'.
I went to the search engine www.ask.com and put in '56th Regiment Bermuda 1853' the info may be of some help to you try it.
Or you can try contacting the Bermuda Maritime Museum and possibly they will have some info for you.
Also try contacting the www.rootschat.com as they are really helpful.
Good luck and if you think I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.
Judy in Bermuda.
