Charles Stewart and Wesleyan Cemetery
I am seeking information about the Wesleyan Cemetery St Georgewhere Rev Charles Stewart (died 2 March 1858) was buried 3 Mar 1858 St George by Rev James MacDowall, chaplain 26 Regiment of Foot. Where is this cemetery located? Are there any burial records for this period? Is the grave stone likely to be still in existence?
Also I am interested in the 26 Regiment of Foot (Cameronians) where Stewart's brother in law, Alexander Hall was Quartermaster, and their stay in Bermuda.
Charles Stewart was a Baptist minister who served in Brisbane Australia 1849-55 and then returned to UK in ill health. His sister Elizabeth finally arranged for him to come and stay with her (date unknown) in Bermuda where he died as above. He had a brother Robert who was a Presbyterian minister in Scotland who pre-deceased him. there may have been another sister as well who travelled to Australia with Charles but soon went off on her own. Nothing much else is known about the family.
I am researching this information for the history of the Baptist Church in Queensland where Stewart was the first minister.
Thanks very much.
