I believe one of Richard More's sons died on Raleigh's ill-fated expedition to South America. It is likely More's wife died in Bermuda. The other son traveled from Bermuda in 1655, landing in Pungo, Princess Anne Co. (now Va. Beach) Virginia. This is where my line of the Moores in America begin. My grandfather James Edward Moore was born in Norfolk, VA in 1897. Then moved to WVa after service in WWI.
We know of no other descendants. This is from research done at the British Library in London in 2003.

Richard More's other 'claim to fame' is as author of "The Carpenter's Rule," one of the first printed books in London published in 1603. It was a textbook on the use of Euclidean geometry in carpentry. It talks about the use of a new innovation for the age "the ruler"--I think of it every time I pull out my tape measure. Thus, More's great impact on the early defense of Bermuda in building wooden fortresses to ward off would be invaders--mainly the Spanish. These were later replaced by the stone forts seen on the island today.

Hope this helps. I apologize as I don't have any of the geneological records in front of me. I'll have to check with my father on dates and names.

Best Regards,

Jonathan Barrons Moore, Ph.D.
Sandy, Utah
