Tashima DeGraffe

Alphosnos De Graffe- 1929-1995

I am looking for my ancestors or anyone with the knowledge of my father's father. His last name is De Graff my dad added an e to the end of the name. My father was born in the Virgin Islands. So i am looking for anyone that has any information on a person with the same last name or knows anyone that can let me know.

thank you

Hello Tashima

My family is from the Virgin Islands. They migrated up from Surinam which is at the tip of South America back in the 1700's. We came up through all the Islands. If you use some mega searches you will find a cousin of mind whose father is my grandfathers brother. My grandfather moved to Puerto Rico from St. Thomas in the early 1920's then Moved to New York City. His name was John DeGraffe. As I said my cousin who is a Law professor at Queens College his name is Luis Jorge DeGraffe.

Depending on if you're of African decent, many times they would drop the e at the end of DeGraffe. I'm not sure which! My cousin Luis traced our hertiage to Surinam. I guess we got the name from the plantation and the overseer was a man named Governor John DeGraff(e). Surnam was at one time a Dutch colony which you may know is Netherland origin. That may be the reason that there are Degraff's or DeGraffe's with an E.

I have the name of my great grandfather who also lived in Puerto Rico in San Juan. I do know he had other children other than my grandfater and great uncle. There are DeGraffe's in St. Thomas, Bermuda, Bahamas and other Virgin Islands.

My name is Herbert DeGraffe. My Grandfather is John DeGraffe and he had a half brother names Luis Degraffe from Puerto Rico his son was Luis Jr. a law professor a CCNY in New York City who just past a month ago...My Grandfather John DeGraffe mothers name was Henreitta Vanderpool (Vanterpool) and her sisters name was Estelle Vanderpool...

My Great Grandfather name was John (James) J. DeGraffe who moved to Puerto Rico in early 1900's then my grandfather John and his mother Heneritta moved back to St. Thomas...I think my Great Grandfather then married a Mary Hanson who was my great uncle Luis DeGraffe mother...By the sound of this my great grandfather had additional kids as well. My great grandfather use to work for the Otis Elevator Company in San Juan.. I believe Mary Hanson and her son Luis moved to New York City...I need to put together a better time line so we can piece this puzzle together...

Luis Jorge DeGraffe, Jr. was born February 22, 1949 also has two brothers and their names are Israel DeGraffe and Abad DeGraffe and they are twins..My Grandfather John DeGraffe had two sons, my Father whose name was Herbert John DeGraffe, Sr. born December 16, 1933 and John DeGraffe both with different mothers. My name is Herbert John DeGraffe, Jr. born May 25, 1956 and I have two younger brothers whose names are Kieth Michael DeGraffe born March 31, 1957 and Adrian James DeGraffe born June 29, 1959. We all have children as well...names Jennifer DeGraffe born May 15, 1979, Aaron DeGraffe born March 14, 1984, Adrian J. DeGraffe Jr., Jacob DeGraffe, Jarred DeGraffe, Demitrius DeGraffe, Cloie DeGraffe.

My fathers brother who is six months older than him John DeGraffe had four girls named Jolene Degraffe, Barbara DeGraffe, Reitta DeGraffe, and Angelina DeGraffe. Jolene DeGraffe has three children names are Armand Skrine, Thomas Skrine and a daughter. My cousin Luis who just past also has two sons named Jamaal and Khalil DeGraffe. My father and his half-brother was born in June 1933 New York City. Please get in touch...If Alphonse was born in 1929-1995 was he my great grandfathers son as well, if he was born in Puerto Rico or another brother of my great grandfather or an older brother of my grandfather and they lived in St. Thomas. My grandfather and grandmother use to talk about Johnny Martin as well...I hope this will be helpful!
