OBITUARY-Bermuda Royal Gazette May 24, 1898 (Bermuda National Library, Feb. 14, 2002):
Death of William Bradley, Esq.
By the death of Mr. William Bradley, which occurred on last Tuesday evening 17th instant our city of Hamilton loses one of its foremost citizens, and the whole Colony sustains a loss by the removal of one of its most valuable members. Born in Ottawa, Canada, the late Mr. Bradley moved, while yet quite a young man to the then small town of Dansville, New York. Here he engaged in the Marble and Stone Work, and soon built up the largest business in that section of the State. He was a real Artist in his profession and numerous groups of statuary and monument in City as well as Country graveyards bear witness to the care and skill he manifested in all his work. About fifteen years ago he removed to Bermuda, and since then and up to the date of his death, he thoroughly identified himself with every interest of the country of his adoption. Straightforward and upright in every particular, yet with a heart all full of the milk of human kindness he never grudged his services nor the aid of hand or purse, when his neighbor needed his assistance. he was always anxious for the advancement and prosperity of these Islands, and contributed not a little by advertising and his own personal efforts to increase the numbers of our Winter Visitors. In his private life he was an exemplary father and husband, and his memory will be long held in benediction by relatives and friends. Joined to a mind which was literallya store-house of useful knowledge, he possessed a correct judgement and a sincere and unbiased wish to be governed only by right motives. While deploring his loss, yet we can feel glad that such men have moved even for a time amung us; and while sympathiing most heartily with his sorrowing widow and children, we can congratulate them on the precious memory, which the recollection of his sterling worth and virtues must be ever for them.
