The following notes may be of interest to anyone interested in the migration of members of the Bermingham family to Spain. I recently came across this information in Italy, however I should add that I have no way of ascertaining whether it is a 'false lead' or not. Quoting from a Spanish source, I learned that the Bermingham family in Spain was "originario de Adergoole en Irlanda, y una rama se estableciò en San Sebastiàn." If I am not mistaken, San Sebastian is in the Basque territory. I also once met a person from that area who referred that he knew people of that name. Notes which I found together with this indication make reference to the following sources: - Ordenes de Santiago, Calatrava, Alcantara, Montesa (corporaciones para luchar contra los moros y protegiendo a los desvalidos y peregrinos), Carlos III y San Juan de Jerùsalen (orden religiosa y militar fundada en el sieglo XI) - Reales Chancilleria de Valladolid y Granada. - El Solar Vasco Navarro The notes were also accompanied by the arms of the family, which appear in "una ejecutoria de 1718." I have spent some time following the postings on this website and others, as my mother descended from this family, and I wanted to find out more about my Irish roots. Her name was Kathleen Bermingham. Her father, Joseph Bermingham, was born towards the end of the 19th century in Allenwood, close to Naas in Co. Kildare. My great-grandfather and great-grandmother were John and Elizabeth Bermingham of Allenwood, and I would imagine they were born around 1860 (?). I only know that my great-grandparents had about 12 or 13 children. If any other descendants of this branch should read this, I would be pleased to hear from them. I live and work in Italy. Regards to all, Steve Pastorello
