Hi Carlos
I don't doubt that we are distantly related.Regarding the Tlaxcaltecos, they sufferred a similar fate that the Cherokee did. They were forcibly removed from Tlaxca and sent to Coahuila to fight the Camanche and Apache. They were also sent to Zacatecas to mine.Remember, Malinche came from these people and were the first to befriend Hernan Cortez and helped bring down the Aztec regime.
I looked up Bermeo in Spain, which is where the last name is believed to have orginated. There is a good reason why there may be a French connection to the name, as this region is in the upper eastern portion of Spain, bordering France.
We think that Bermeo was changed to Bermea, and like many Native Americans in Mexico, they were baptized and renamed, usually in the name of some soldier or region they came from or even the priest. In the conquering of our people, we can't even be sure that the name we have is either inherited or given to us.Which is why I was extremely surprised and glad to link my ancestors to an Indian people, as many of us no longer can do this!
