Berlin/Berlien/Berlein Ohio 1980 to pres

My grandfather, Glen(n?)'s death certificate lists the spelling of his surname "Berlin."
However, the spelling on his marriage certificate to Minnie Mae Fiber spells it as "Berlien."

Glen(n?)'s son's (Carl) birth certificate shows "Berlein." Carl pronounced it Berlin sometimes.

Has anyone else found this spelling confusion, and how did you figure out which was correct and where to go next?

Please e-mail me at InHisSrvic@aol.com in addition to posting, because I am on timed service and don't get to message boards often.
